UNDER NEW DIRECTORSHIP!
We are proud to announce that The Botsford School of Dance is now under the joint Directorship of Ms. Julianne Deming and Ms. Janet Wentling.
Ms. Deming began her ballet training under the tutelage of Janet Reed (NYCB). A trainee at Harkness House, she studied under Anne Hebard, Maria Vegh and David Howard. Julianne performed with the New York City Ballet, Hartford Ballet and New Windsor Ballet. Ms. Deming is a founding member of Draper Dance Theater, currently known as the Rochester City Ballet, where she performed as a soloist and served as Assistant Director in the company's formative years. Many former students are currently dancers nationally and internationally, performing with the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Houston Ballet, Hubbard Street, Ballet Met, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Pennsylvania and Cincinnati Ballet as well as Ballet Wurzburg, Germany.
Ms. Wentling received her early ballet schooling in Los Angeles, CA where she studied the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) method for ten years. She then trained and performed with the Pennsylvania Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet and the Minnesota Dance Theatre, where she portrayed numerous roles in both classical and contemporary ballet. Ms. Wentling attended teacher training workshops at the school of the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle and at the International Dance Festival in Cologne, Germany. Ms. Wentling has been on faculty at the school of the Minnesota Dance Theatre, Ballet Arts Minnesota, Northwest Ballet, the University of Minnesota Dance Department and the Botsford School of Dance.
Ms. Deming and Ms. Wentling bring to the Botsford School of Dance more than 47 combined years of professional teaching expertise. They are committed to providing excellence in dance training in a disciplined, yet encouraging atmosphere free from negative, competitive pressures. They look forward to sharing their love of the art form with the next generation of dancers.
HISTORY:
The
Botsford School of Dance has been a highly respected, prestigious dance program in the Rochester area for
more than 87 years, established by Enid Knapp Botsford Orcutt with the intention of using dance to help students develop a wider understanding of culture and art.
PHILOSOPHY:
The
tradition continues today with a program designed to promote proper classical ballet technique and to foster
the joy of movement through a sound curriculum and nurturing environment. Students from pre-school level to advanced may
study ballet, pointe, modern, jazz and conditioning with world-class instructors in one of the area's finest facilities. Each student
will be evaluated and placed in ballet classes commensurate to their skill level. Intermediate and Advanced students may participate in additional dance disciplines which enhance versatility and help to develop the total dancer. Students have the opportunity to join Performance Workshop in which they will learn solo and ensemble works in ballet and contemporary dance, and with the guidance
of their instructor explore their own choreographic talents.
We welcome you to the Botsford School of Dance. Our dedicated instructors will guide and challenge each dancer toward his and her fullest potential for artistry and command of technique. Through ballet training your child will enjoy many benefits, both immediate and lifelong; for dance becomes an outlet for creative self-expression and promotes improved health, physical strength and endurance, musicality, grace and confidence.
